Brief biography for Dr. Sung Nguyen
Dr. Sung Nguyen, Google AI Technologist. Dr. Nguyen started at Google in 2005 - the early days of Google Enterprise, now Google Cloud. Prior to Google, he worked at NASA (KSC), Lockheed Martin (FAA STARS, Tactical Defense projects), Data Card, and Borland Software. He authored various technical papers on software development, spoke at Boland Software International Conferences, and co-authored "Mastering JBuilder" - a Java development book published by Wiley and Sons in 2003. His doctoral research on the IoT security framework research was advised directly by Dr. Vint Cerf - the father of the Internet.
Dr. Nguyen was born in 1971 and grew up in a rural town called Chu Lai, in the middle of Vietnam. Prior to migrating to the US in 1991, he studied mathematics and informatics in Saigon. Dr. Nguyen studied for two years at NOVA and transferred to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU). Dr. Nguyen loved space studies and technology. He continued his path to earning a bachelor's degree in Computer Science for Aviation and two minors in Mathematics and Space Studies at ERAU. During his three years at ERAU, he worked at NASA Kennedy Space Center. In 1996, he joined Lorel/Lockheed Martin, Minnesota, to work on the FAA STARS program and then moved to a special tactical defense project. In 1998, he earned his Master's degree in Software Engineering and Software Systems at the University of St. Thomas, MN. He earned his Doctorate in Systems Engineering at George Washington University.
His graduate research on communication buses for distributed systems (middleware) was used on a couple of tactical defense projects. Since his research was similar to the early days of the Common Object Request Broker, he ended up leaving the government environment and joining commercial software development. He joined Borland Software in 1999 as a Distributed System specialist. During his six years at Borland, he traveled almost a million miles and was involved in various software projects. He authored various technical papers on software development. Annually, he spoke at Borland's software developer conferences. In 2003, he and his two friends published a technical book, "Mastering JBuilder" by WILEY. In 2005, he joined Google. His interest was to apply his field experiences to "enterprise information sharing" and to help Google grow its Enterprise search business. He was with Google for 16 years. The company with one of the world's largest research groups focused exclusively on organizing the world's information and making it universally accessible and useful. He loves to see how he can help make finding information a fast and seamless experience for billions of people. His focus is to bring the power of search to previously unexplored areas and to help people access and use even more of the ever expanding information in their lives. He said, "how cool it is to transform a search result into a piece of knowledge for yourself and your business." Dr. Nguyen is active with many educational programs for young people. He has been involved with the Vietnamese Buddhist Youth (GDPT) for 30 years and has been the US Eastern Director of Research, Development, and Training since 2004. He is the president and co-founder of Boddiyouth.org, whose vision is to create a nourishing environment for young people to unfold their potential and achieve a balanced and all embracing lifestyle. He also founded and served as a director for the Retreat Of Awakening camp program. Dr. Nguyen believes his best work is accomplished through serving the young generation, raising his children, and being an active citizen of his community. He is grateful for the goodwill and support of his family, friends, and all friends near and far.
Dr. Nguyen is now retired from Google and is actively involved with projects as part of his small contributions to help his motherland Vietnam. Now, he serves as a Data Scientist for BeowulfChain Corporation.
2018. Dr. Nguyen joined the advisory board of the Lotus School Foundation, which has built more than 27 schools with a total of 100 classrooms in rural, mountainous areas across Vietnam. The organization is aiming to build 100 schools for Vietnam by 2025.
2019. Dr. Nguyen took on the role of Director of Technology at The Michael Dukakis Institute (MDI) for Leadership and Innovation. Also, he is the Director of the AI World Society Project (AIWS) in Vietnam.
2020. Dr. Nguyen served as the Director of Education for the Vietnam Children Funds organization, which has built more than 50 elementary schools across Vietnam.
2021. During the peak COVID impacts, Dr. Nguyen worked with a group of volunteers in Ho Chi Minh City and founded TuVanCovid.com, applying the telemedicine concept to help 2000+ Covid patients. He and a group of doctors founded OneStop Telehealth company and serves as its Chief Technical Officer.

Ông lấy bằng Thạc sĩ Software Engineering và Software System tại Đại học St. Thomas, MN. Tiến sĩ Nguyễn Sung tích cực tham gia và điều hành nhiều chương trình giáo dục cho giới trẻ. Ông là Huynh Trưởng Gia Đình Phật tử Việt Nam (GDPT) hơn 30 năm, và hiện đang là Phó Trưởng ban Nghiên Cứu Huấn Luyện Ban hướng dẫn Trung Ương GĐPT Việt Nam tại Hoa Kỳ. Ông cũng là chủ tịch và đồng sáng lập của Bodhi Youth Organization, một tổ chức với tầm nhìn tạo ra một môi trường nuôi dưỡng cho giới trẻ để phát triển tiềm năng và đạt được một lối sống toàn diện và cân đối. Ông cũng đồng sáng lập và thành viên trong Ban Điều hành của trại Retreat Of Awakening. Ông tin rằng công việc tốt nhất của Ông được thực hiện là thông qua việc phục vụ thế hệ trẻ, nuôi dưỡng con cái hạnh phúc, và là một công dân đóng góp tích cực. Tổ chức này đang hướng đến mục tiêu xây dựng 100 trường học cho Việt Nam vào năm 2025. Năm 2019, Ông đảm nhận vai trò Giám đốc Công nghệ tại Viện Michael Dukakis (MDI) về Lãnh đạo và Đổi mới. Bên cạnh đó, Ông cũng là Giám đốc Dự án AI World Society (AIWS) tại Việt Nam.
