The Six Realms Summer Camp 2026:
Where Youth Learn to Listen to Nature and Look Deeply Within

Beneath the shade of towering trees, accompanied by the whispers of the forest breeze and the warmth of the summer sun along rustic woodland paths, more than 165 leaders, youth members, and parents of Kim Quang Buddhist Youth Family gathered for The Six Realms Summer Camp 2026. More than simply a few days of outdoor activities, the camp became a journey back to nature, back to community, and, most importantly, back to one’s own heart.

Nature has long been a silent teacher within the Buddhist Youth Family. Surrounded by forests, streams, and the simplicity of camp life, participants found themselves letting go of the distractions of everyday life, listening to birdsong, breathing with the rhythm of the earth, and rediscovering that they are an inseparable part of a much larger web of life. Every leaf, every tree, and every open sky gently reminded them that genuine happiness arises when we live in harmony with the environment and cherish the gifts that nature quietly offers.

Within such a setting, this year’s camp theme, The Six Realms, came vividly to life.

According to Brother Tâm Thường Định, in a Dharma talk based on the teachings of Venerable Đức Hạnh, participants were invited to contemplate the profound meaning of the Six Realms. The Heavenly Realm, the Human Realm, the Asura Realm, the Animal Realm, the Hungry Ghost Realm, and the Hell Realm are not merely destinations awaiting beings after death; they are also states of mind that arise and disappear within each of us throughout our daily lives.

There are moments when our hearts are open, peaceful, and filled with loving-kindness, reflecting the Heavenly Realm. At other times, we cultivate wisdom by learning, acknowledging our mistakes, and striving to become better people, embodying the Human Realm. Yet there are also moments when jealousy, anger, craving, or ignorance lead us into realms of suffering here and now.

The central message of the Dharma talk was expressed through three simple yet transformative practices: cultivating compassion, practicing gratitude, and living with a spirit of contribution. These principles became the guiding values woven throughout every aspect of the camp experience.

Throughout the camp, participants pitched tents together, prepared meals, embraced challenges, cared for their shared environment, maintained the campsite, and supported one another through countless small acts of kindness. Every helping hand, every word of encouragement, and every gesture of generosity became a living lesson in compassion, responsibility, and community.

Immersed in nature, the young participants also discovered an important lesson about environmental stewardship. Picking up a piece of litter, conserving water, protecting the forest, and appreciating every green space became expressions of gratitude toward the Earth—our shared home. Caring for the environment, therefore, is far more than a civic responsibility; it is a mindful practice and a natural expression of Buddhist compassion.

Ultimately, the greatest value of a summer camp is not found in games, awards, or memorable photographs, but in the seeds quietly planted within young hearts—the seeds of kindness, cooperation, gratitude, and responsibility toward both humanity and the natural world.

As night descended over the forest and the campfire illuminated the gathering of blue-shirted youth, everyone sensed more deeply that Buddhist practice is never separate from everyday life. The path of transformation begins with the smallest of actions: a wholesome thought, a compassionate smile, a helpful deed, and a heart willing to love.

The Six Realms, therefore, are no longer distant concepts confined to Buddhist teachings. They become a mirror through which each person may look deeply into his or her own mind every single day. Amid the vast beauty of nature, the 165 members of Kim Quang Buddhist Youth Family shared a simple yet profound lesson: a peaceful world does not begin somewhere else—it begins with cultivating a peaceful realm within our own hearts.

Phổ Ái: Chánh Niệm Giữa Thời Đại AI | Mindfulness in the Age of AI

Mindfulness in the Age of AI

Amid the turbulent upheavals of the twenty-first century, humanity is entering an era in which artificial intelligence no longer stands outside human life as a mere technical instrument. It is quietly penetrating every social structure, every educational system, every media habit, every labor model, and more profoundly still, the very rhythms of human consciousness itself. Never before in history have human beings lived amid such an overwhelming abundance of information; yet never before have they been so spiritually exhausted, so prone to losing the capacity to listen inwardly, and so estranged from genuine presence in life as they are today.

The modern world is producing minds that move ever faster, yet it is far less certain that it is cultivating souls capable of deeper understanding.

It is precisely here that mindfulness emerges not only as a personal practice, but also as a profound spiritual necessity of our age.

It is no coincidence that, over the past few decades, mindfulness programs have appeared in hospitals, schools, universities, technology corporations, military institutions, and psychological treatment centers throughout the world. As social pressure, technological acceleration, and the fragmentation of human attention increasingly push people into states of chronic anxiety and inner instability, humanity has gradually begun to realize that intelligence alone cannot sustain civilization if the capacity for awareness is forgotten.

Yet herein also lies one of the greatest paradoxes of our time.

The moment mindfulness became a global “trend,” it simultaneously began facing the danger of losing its original meaning.

Today, mindfulness is frequently presented as a technique for reducing stress, increasing productivity, improving sleep, or optimizing workplace performance. In many places, mindfulness has been simplified into a form of spiritual technology serving the marketplace. It is packaged as a commercial product, transformed into self-help training, or reduced to short-term psychological therapy detached from the ethical and contemplative foundations of Buddhism itself. In countless cases, people learn how to concentrate, yet never learn how to contemplate deeply; they learn how to calm themselves, yet not how to transform suffering; they learn emotional management, yet never touch the deeper dimensions of compassion and wisdom.

This is why, among the countless mindfulness movements of today, what matters most is no longer the number of programs nor their widespread popularity. What truly matters is the ability to preserve the authentic essence of Buddhist mindfulness amid an age increasingly shaped by the commercialization of spirituality.

It is precisely at this critical point that the quiet yet enduring efforts of Dr. Bach Xuan Phe — GĐPT Leader Tam Thuong Dinh of the Vietnamese Buddhist Youth Association in the United States — become especially meaningful and worthy of deep respect.

Observing the workshops and guidance he has offered to Buddhist communities in many places, particularly within schools and among educators, one quickly recognizes that these are not merely “wellness trainings” in the conventional American sense. Beneath the gentle and accessible methods of practice lies a sincere effort to preserve the depth of mindfulness upon the foundations of Buddhist meditation and Dharma teachings.

And that is no easy task.

For within the framework of modern Western education, mindfulness instructors constantly stand between two opposing tensions: on one side, the demand for practical, scientific, and universally accessible applications; on the other, the danger of diluting or losing the original spiritual depth of Buddhism itself. If mindfulness becomes overly religious, it risks isolation and exclusion from educational institutions. Yet if it becomes entirely secularized, it can easily deteriorate into a market-driven psychological product no longer capable of addressing suffering at its roots.

To preserve balance between these two dimensions is perhaps the most difficult and precious challenge of all.

And perhaps this is precisely what makes the journey of GĐPT Leader Tam Thuong Dinh Bach Xuan Phe so deeply admirable throughout these many years.

At a time when young people are growing up amid social media saturation, accelerating digitization, relentless achievement pressures, identity crises, and increasingly widespread spiritual loneliness, mindfulness in education can no longer be regarded as a secondary discipline or a fashionable extracurricular activity. It is gradually becoming one of the essential human foundations of future education itself.

For an educational system that merely trains people to compete, yet never teaches them how to listen inwardly; that teaches success without teaching the transformation of suffering, will ultimately produce generations highly skilled in technology yet profoundly fragile within themselves.

That is the silent tragedy of modern civilization.

Therefore, the role of mindfulness teachers today extends far beyond introducing a few techniques for relaxation or stress reduction. They are participating in something far greater: the preservation of humanity itself within an increasingly technocratic age.

And for this reason, the image of a Vietnamese Buddhist Youth Association leader quietly entering American schools to speak with educators, students, and communities about breathing, awareness, presence, and compassion carries a significance far beyond that of an ordinary workshop.

It reflects a remarkable capacity within Vietnamese Buddhism in the diaspora — not merely to survive as a cultural memory of immigrant communities, but to contribute directly to the spiritual crises of contemporary society itself.

What is even more meaningful is that, in Dr. Bach Xuan Phe’s approach, mindfulness is never presented as something mystical or as a form of spiritual privilege. Rather, it is returned to the very essence of Buddhism itself: a path through which human beings learn to live with awareness toward themselves and toward others.

And perhaps this is exactly what humanity needs most in today’s age of artificial intelligence.

For ultimately, the greatest crisis of our era does not lie in machines becoming excessively intelligent, but in the danger of human beings losing the depth of their own consciousness.

Thus, every effort to preserve mindfulness in its authentic meaning — especially within schools, community education, and the formation of future generations — becomes an immeasurably valuable contribution to the future of humanity.

In this sense, the quiet journey of GĐPT Leader Tam Thuong Dinh Bach Xuan Phe deserves to be recognized as an effort to safeguard human dignity amid the age of artificial intelligence and global spiritual fragmentation — for what ultimately redeems humanity is not merely the creation of ever more intelligent machines, but the human capacity to pause, breathe deeply, look inward once again, and realize that amid all the upheavals of this age, awakened awareness remains the final refuge of our humanity.
