Đôi nét về Chùa Kim Quang – Sacramento

Chùa Kim Quang là một trong những ngôi già lam Việt Nam có lịch sử lâu đời tại thủ phủ Sacramento, tiểu bang California. Chùa được hình thành từ năm 1977 trong những năm đầu cộng đồng người Việt gây dựng đời sống tâm linh nơi đất mới. Từ một căn nhà nhỏ trên đường Alta Arden Expressway được cải dụng làm nơi lễ Phật, chùa từng bước phát triển dưới sự hướng dẫn của Cố Hòa thượng Thích Thiên Ân và Hòa thượng Thích Tịnh Từ.

Vào năm 1981, Cố Hòa thượng Thích Thiện Trì từ đảo Galang, Indonesia, sang nhậm chức trụ trì và điều hành mọi Phật sự cho đến khi Ngài viên tịch vào năm 2003. Lễ đặt đá được tổ chức vào ngày 27 tháng 12 năm 2003 dưới sự chứng minh của Cố Hòa thượng Thích Mãn Giác. Qua sự hướng dẫn của chư Tôn đức và sự phát tâm của Phật tử, chùa đã hoàn tất chánh điện vào năm 2009. Qua nhiều năm kiến tạo, ngôi chùa hiện nay được hoàn thành vào năm 2023, trở thành một đạo tràng trang nghiêm, đồng thời là nơi quy tụ đông đảo Phật tử và cộng đồng người Việt tại Sacramento.

Chùa Kim Quang đã và đang giữ vai trò gìn giữ Phật giáo và văn hóa Việt Nam trong cộng đồng người Việt tại Sacramento và vùng phụ cận trong suốt gần năm mươi năm qua.

Đặc biệt, GĐPT Kim Quang được thành lập từ Lễ Vu Lan năm 1978, duy trì các sinh hoạt Phật pháp, Việt ngữ và giáo dục thanh thiếu niên, góp phần nối tiếp mạch sống đạo pháp và văn hóa Việt giữa lòng xã hội Hoa Kỳ.

Kim Quang Temple – Sacramento

Kim Quang Temple is one of the long-established Vietnamese Buddhist temples in Sacramento, the capital of California. The temple was founded in 1977 during the early years when the Vietnamese community was beginning to establish its spiritual life in a new homeland. From a small house on Alta Arden Expressway that was converted into a place of Buddhist worship, the temple gradually developed under the guidance of the late Most Venerable Thích Thiên Ân and Most Venerable Thích Tịnh Từ.

In 1981, the late Most Venerable Thích Thiện Trì came from Galang Island, Indonesia, to assume the position of Abbot and oversee all Buddhist activities until his passing in 2003. The foundation-stone ceremony was held on December 27, 2003, under the spiritual witness and blessing of the late Most Venerable Thích Mãn Giác. With the guidance of the Venerable Sangha and the generous support of Buddhist devotees, the temple completed its Main Hall in 2009. After many years of development and construction, the present temple complex was completed in 2023, becoming a dignified place of Buddhist practice as well as a gathering place for many Buddhist followers and members of the Vietnamese community in Sacramento.

For nearly fifty years, Kim Quang Temple has played an important role in preserving and sustaining Buddhism and Vietnamese culture within the Vietnamese community in Sacramento and the surrounding areas.

In particular, the Kim Quang Vietnamese Buddhist Youth Association (GĐPT Kim Quang) was established during the Ullambana Festival in 1978. Since then, it has continued to provide Buddhist studies, Vietnamese-language education, and youth programs, contributing to the continuation of Buddhist values and Vietnamese cultural heritage within American society.

The current Abbot of Kim Quang Temple and Spiritual Advisor to the Kim Quang Vietnamese Buddhist Youth Association is Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn.
