Nhân kỷ niệm 20 năm cưới, một ngày trọng đại trong đời, gia đình nhỏ lại quây quần bên nhau để đánh dấu cột mốc ý nghĩa này. Lần này, cả nhà quyết định đổi khẩu vị, dẫn Ông Nội đi ăn món Ý – một trải nghiệm lạ lẫm với ông, người cả đời quen thuộc với bữa cơm gia đình giản dị.
Bữa ăn bắt đầu với niềm vui rộn rã, tiếng cười nói của các thế hệ hòa quyện trong không khí ấm cúng. Đến lúc cháu nội, với nét tinh nghịch cố hữu, hỏi Ông:
“Ông Nội ăn ngon không?”
Ông chậm rãi gật đầu, khen:
“Ngon chứ! Lạ miệng mà đậm đà.”
Cả nhà vừa cười vừa gật gù, cảm thấy vui vì Ông Nội đã hài lòng. Nhưng chưa dừng lại ở đó, cháu nội đích tôn Khang, luôn thích pha trò, liền chêm vào:
“Nhưng mà Ông biết không, bữa ăn này tốn nhiều tiền lắm đó nha!” Và rồi bật mí con số.
Ông Nội bỗng đổi sắc, mặt nghiêm lại, vừa phán ngay một câu, vừa cười:
“Đồ quỹ, thức ăn dở như… ‘cỏ!’”
Cả nhà không nhịn được, ôm bụng cười đến rơi nước mắt. Ông thì vẫn điềm nhiên, như thể mọi sự đều rất bình thường. Nhưng phía sau tiếng cười ấy, là một niềm xúc động sâu sắc.
Hồi tưởng lại, cả nhà không khỏi thầm thương Ba Mẹ – cả một đời tận tụy vì con, vì cháu. Một đời hy sinh, sống giản dị, dành từng đồng từng cắc để nuôi con ăn học, chưa bao giờ nghĩ đến việc giữ lại gì cho riêng mình. Có chút tiền tiêu, Ba Mẹ cũng dành để cúng chùa, hoặc gửi về giúp đỡ quê hương. Lo cho con xong, lại tiếp tục lo cho cháu, như một vòng tròn bất tận của tình yêu thương và sự hy sinh.
Thương thay cho những Ba Mẹ Việt Nam, muôn đời chỉ biết cho đi, chẳng màng nhận lại. Câu chuyện ấy, dù nhỏ bé, lại là minh chứng sống động cho tình cảm gia đình thiêng liêng và sự vĩ đại của lòng yêu thương vô điều kiện. Mãi thương Ba Mẹ nhiều thật nhiều !
A Story Just Now Told – Part 1
On the occasion of our 20th wedding anniversary, a momentous day in our lives, the small family gathered together to mark this meaningful milestone. This time, we decided to try something new and took Grandpa out for Italian food—a novel experience for him, someone who had spent his whole life enjoying simple, home-cooked family meals.
The meal began with lively joy, the laughter and chatter of generations mingling in a warm atmosphere. At one point, the mischievous grandchild, Khang, turned to Grandpa and asked:
“Grandpa, was the food good?”
Grandpa nodded slowly and praised:
“It’s good! Unusual but flavorful.”
We laughed and nodded in agreement, pleased that Grandpa enjoyed the meal. But it didn’t stop there. The playful grandchild, K always up for a joke, added:
“But Grandpa, do you know? This meal cost a lot of money!” Then revealed the total amount.
Grandpa’s expression suddenly changed. His face turned serious as he declared while laughing:
“Heavens! The food was as bad as… ‘grass!’”
The entire family burst into laughter, holding their stomachs as tears streamed down their faces. Grandpa, meanwhile, remained completely composed, as if nothing unusual had happened. Yet behind that laughter lay a deep sense of emotion.
Looking back, the family couldn’t help but feel an enduring love and gratitude for their parents—who had spent their entire lives sacrificing for their children and grandchildren. They had lived simply, saving every penny to support their children’s education, never once thinking of keeping anything for themselves. Even with a little spare money, they would donate to temples or send it back to help those in need in their homeland. After raising their children, they continued to devote themselves to their grandchildren, creating an unending cycle of love and sacrifice.
Such is the life of Vietnamese parents—forever giving, never asking for anything in return. This little story, though small, stands as a vivid testament to the sacredness of family and the greatness of unconditional love. Always love you, Mommy and Daddy !
