An Honors Chemistry Project

An Honors Chemistry Project
Description:  Working solo or with a partner, research, write a paper and create a presentation that describes how a medication/drug, that is connected to you or your family, impact human life and society. The paper is about 3-5pages in length and the presentation is about 3mins.
Due date:  Presentations start Wednesday May 30 and will continue through the week until all groups are done.  Presentation order will be by random draw or volunteer-based.  All groups should be ready to present on that day.  All groups will be turning in a hard copy (especially for live performances) or a cd or file (especially for recorded performances) by the final exam day.
Requirements:
·         A description (in your own words!) that answers the following questions
1.       What is the medication/drug?  (Facts, structure, description etc)
2.       How is this medication/drug developed?
3.       What are the pros and cons (side effect included)?
4.       Why is it matter?
5.       What is the income of this medication/drug just over last year and lifetime?
6.       What is the expectation of this medication/drug prospect?  (Future demand)
7.     How is this medication/drug contribute to your family, community and society?
8.     What did you learn from this research?
·         Presentation to the class that is 4-7 minutes long.  The presentation should have a title.  Be creative with your presentation.  Presentation format may include but is not limited to:
1.       Make a Video/Tri-fold/Poster
3.       Power point/Photostory/Moviemaker Commercial
4.       Write and Recite a Poem or a Rap –This will be a long poem but could and should be both informative and entertaining.
5.       Write and Perform a Song – well, if you can!  Or record yourself singing about the career – you can use the tune of some WELL KNOWN song that I would recognize
6.       Any other presentation formats must be cleared with me.

·         All sources must be cited.
1.    If your presentation is a video, powerpoint, photostory, or moviemaker, include all source citations within the final product.
2.   If your presentation is live, turn in a separate typed paper with all citations included.
3.    You must have at least three sources.  The more sources the better and the more things you will learn about this career.  If you are doing an interview, the person you are interviewing counts as one source.

·        Just a recommendation – DO NOT pick something because you think it will be easy.  Choose something you will have fun doing and others will enjoy learning about as you present.
·      Check yourself against the rubric frequently as you research and prepare your presentation.  Just meeting minimum standards will not earn an A.

·         “There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.” Make it interesting and have fun making it.  Make your presentation great!

Rubrics: I will used MYP5 Interdisciplinary Learning Assessment Criteria. I'll grade Criteria A, B, and C. You'll grade Criteria D - Reflecting.

The paper worths 35 points and the presentation worth 15 points.
