Your Career Path Project (Alternative Senior Final)

Let's go. Best wishes. Mr. Bach

Your Career Path Project
(Alternative Senior Final)
Description:  Working solo, write a research paper and create a presentation that describes how your future career and/or a career is related to chemistry.
Due date:  By the Senior final exam day.  All individuals will be turning in a hard copy (especially for live performances) or a cd or file (especially for recorded performances).
Requirements:
·         A description (in your own words!) that answers the following questions
1.       What do workers in this career do?  (job description)
2.       How is chemistry used in this career?
3.       What are the working conditions?  (Hours, dress, setting, hazards, locations, etc.)
4.       What is the training, education, and/or degree needed?
5.       What is the range of salaries and what determines salary?
6.       What are the expected job prospects?  (future demand)
7.     How do get to your career goal?
·         Presentation to the class that is about 5 minutes long.  The paper is 3-5pages. The presentation should have a title.  Be creative with your presentation.  Presentation format may include but is not limited to:
1.       Dress up-Pretend to be guest speakers telling the class about your job.  Dress as if you just came off the job.  Be prepared for questions.  Make your job sound enjoyable and rewarding.  Maybe you want to convince young people to choose this career.
2.       Make a Video Interview – Go visit someone on the job and interview them about their job.  Ask only for salary range – not their specific salary – as that would be rude.
3.       Power point/Photostory/Moviemaker Commercial- make it like a recruitment session.  Think about the army/marines type of advertisement – make sure you get all of the important info included. (In movie maker you may use video clips, but only your voices should be heard, mute any other voice overs)
4.       Write and Recite a Poem or a Rap –This will be a long poem but could and should be both informative and entertaining.
5.       Write and Perform a Song – well, if you can!  Or record yourself singing about the career – you can use the tune of some WELL KNOWN song that I would recognize
6.       Any other presentation formats must be cleared with me.
·         All sources must be cited.
1.       If your presentation is a video, powerpoint, photostory, or moviemaker, include all source citations within the final product.
2.       If your presentation is live, turn in a separate typed paper with all citations included.
3.       You must have at least three sources.  The more sources the better and the more things you will learn about this career.  If you are doing an interview, the person you are interviewing counts as one source.
·         Just a recommendation – DO NOT pick something because you think it will be easy.  Choose something you will have fun doing and others will enjoy learning about as you present.
·         Check yourself against the rubric frequently as you research and prepare your presentation.  Just meeting minimum standards will not earn an A.

·         “There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.” Make it interesting and have fun making it.  Make your presentation great!
